Yesterday Apple announced the new MacBook Pro, a laptop four years in the making, and the Internet is justifiably excited. It’s a solid piece of hardware. Now the accessories are rolling out, including a portable external drive from LaCie, and it costs more than the MacBook Pro itself.

The Boltis equipped with a pair of PCIe SSDs that total up to 2TB of storage. And it can transfer data at speeds up to 2800MB/s, a speed which makes it the world’s fastest desktop drive, according to LaCie. It’s a claim that’s very believable. It seems like an incredible piece of hardware, no doubt. It will also cost $1999 when it releases in Q4 of this year. Aye carumba.

And the madness doesn’t stop there. LaCie is releasing more drives, including a 24TB model for $3199 and a 48TB for $6399. To be fair, these drives are geared towards professionals. Nobody expects Joe Consumer to pick one up because he took one too many pictures on his trip to Maccu Picchu. And that’s good, because the drives would cost more than his trip.
