Digitsole

Where I live we’ve been enjoying a warm spell, but it came on the heels of a few days of overnight frost. Which means my mind turns to ways to survive the winter without freezing, but also without using more than my share of resources. One thing that can make me instantly miserable is cold feet; conversely, having warm feet can make my whole day better. I try to wear thick socks if I know I’ll be outside for a while, but there’s a limit to how thick they can be while still allowing my boots to fit properly.

Enter Digitsole. These are insoles to replace the ones you normally wear, with a huge difference. These insoles don’t just cushion your feet, they’ll actually warm them. You control the temperature with your smartphone, so if you need to adjust it while you’re on the go it doesn’t require you taking your shoes off or even bending down. Each insole can be charged with its included USB cable, and a charge lasts anywhere from “7 hours to several days” depending on how much you use them.

In addition to warming your feet, Digitsole also tracks how many steps you’ve walked and how many calories you’ve burned, so it acts as a simple fitness tracker as well. Digitsole is designed to fit your regular size of shoe, although it may require a small amount of trimming for a perfect fit. The insoles are water-resistant (will stand up to humidity and any perspiration from your feet), but not waterproof, so you’ll want to be careful about walking in any puddles if your shoes are not waterproof.

Digitsole is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, and with a little over two weeks to go in the campaign they have received almost double their goal. The early bird pledges are, of course, gone now, but if you want a pair (projected delivery in January 2015), all you need to pledge is at least $149.00 US.
