It’s a Flash Drive Extravaganza! Beth Snyder June 6, 2011 You know how I am about flash drives, and in the last few days I’ve seen some that would fit very well into any collection. Sure, some of them might not be overly practical to carry in a bag or pocket, but they’re a whole lot of fun. Who needs practicality when you can have fun? Besides, you can always leave them on your desk. And I’ve noticed from my life that the more varieties you have the easier it is to remember which one you put which files on. Who could forget their important PowerPoint presentation when it’s on a flash drive that looks like a piece of black forest cake? That’s where I’ll start. The Black Forest Cake Royale USB drive is 2GB, and only the small golden disc where the chain is attached comes out to reveal the USB interface. It supports USB 1.0/1.1/1.2/2.0 specification, is hot removable, and has a data transfer rate up to 480Mbit per second. It’s also available in Strawberry Torte Cake and Fruit Plate Cake. Regular price is $19.99 US, but you can get one right now on sale for half price. Source: Geek Alerts Next up is the Robot Dog Design flash drive. It is 8GB and measures 8 x 3 x 2 cm. Its legs are posable, and it can stand on its own four feet. I have to admit, had it not been called a dog, I would have a hard time trying to decide if it was supposed to be a giraffe, a leopard, or a Thundercat. But I like it! This one goes for just under $17.00 US. Source: 7 Gadgets Speaking of dogs, how about a new variation on an old theme? Kikkerland Design’s USB Hubdog is a cute solution to the age-old problem of having more devices than you do USB ports. It’s a 4 port 2.0 data transfer hub, and is also compatible with USB 1.1 devices. It measures about 8″ x 5.5″ x 0.5″, and can be yours for just $13.00 US. Source: The Gadgeteer Here we have something for the Spock lovers. With any luck at all, it will help you and your data live long and prosper. This one is also only 2GB and supports USB 2.0/1.1. It’s awfully pricey for the specs at $35.99 US, but then it wouldn’t be logical to expect something this neat to not come at a premium. Source: Technabob I’ve only had my Android phone for a little over a week, and I am already frustrated by not being able to share files between it, my laptop, and my desktop. Yes, I do have Dropbox, but still. These cute little guys read and write microSD cards! They are fully compliant with USB 2.0, and support Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 as well as Mac and Linux. All you need to do is slip the microSD card out of your phone and into one of the two Droids (you get both the pink and the green), and it is converted into a flash drive. These are very reasonably priced at $9.00 US for the set of two. Source: Ladies’ Gadgets As we all know, actual film has been discontinued due to the digital revolution. But there is still a use for those canisters! These are 4GB each, and because they are actually up-cycled (not to be confused with recycled, as they retain their original form) film rolls, you don’t know what brand or type of film you’ll be getting. Well, I guess you sort of know type, as they are all 35mm, but you don’t know if it’ll be colour or black and white, or what speed it used to be. You can pick them up for $20.00 US each. Source: The Gadgeteer Finally, we have a collection for the comic book superhero lovers among us. These are officially licensed, and you can choose from Batman, Robin, the Joker or Catwoman. Or collect all four and have an epic adventure on your desk when you need a break from the tedium! They are each available in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB or 16GB and include wallpapers, screen savers, avatars and icons. Pricing starts at $19.95 US depending on which size you choose and where you shop. They also offer a Green Lantern collection for those of you who would prefer that set. Source: Geek Alerts Share This With The World!
