HTC Releasing Smartwatch Alongside One M9 Dylan Duarte December 17, 2014 Back when every company under the sun was racing to develop their own smartwatch for the increasingly-crowded market, HTC decided to cancel production on their own wearable until they could produce something that stood out from the pack. That something is in the works now and will launch in March alongside the HTC One M9. According to HTC’s Drew Bamford, the rush to produce a smartwatch led to everyone releasing wearables that couldn’t be told apart. This is when HTC decided they needed a distinguishable product and cancelled their September launch, using the extra months to make their watch truly unique. According to Mobile Burn, the watch will be stainless steel with a square face and Android Wear. As light as those details are, they do fall in line with the @evleaks leak as seen above. The HTC One M9 will supposedly be unveiled at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona and the watch will launch alongside the One M9 when it comes to market. The people at HTC are right about one thing. Everyone has been so determined to get a smartwatch ready in that initial popularity window that none of them really stood out as radically different than the rest. HTC’s philosophy in the matter has been right on, but as cynical as it may sound, I can easily see this being a ploy where they’re simply waiting an extra six months to release a watch that’s just as generic as the rest, only to say they took their time to make it extra special.
