Good news! And it has nothing to do with the Dacia Sandero (though I am ecstatic that those three buffoons will be back on “TV” again very soon). If you find that your current plan with Fido is coming up a little short and you don’t want to fork over any more money, you’re in luck. Canada’s favorite puppy-themed wireless carrier is offer 1GB of free data to all post-paid customers.

Sorry, prepaid folks. Fido doesn’t like you that way.

This promotion celebrates the 20th anniversary of Fido, which first launched in Canada way back in the 90s. Back then, it was backed in part of Voicestream, which we know today as T-Mobile USA. At the time, Fido was the first and only Canadian provider operating on a GSM network. Trailblazers, they were. Rogers eventually acquired the dog for about $1.4 billion in 2004.

So, how can you get the free gig? First, some clarification. You don’t get a an extra gigabyte of free data every month for the remainder of your contract. That would be far too generous. Instead, you get 500MB a month for the next two months, starting with your November billing cycle.

To get at this promo, text the word GIFT to 2020. Once you do, you’ll get this confirmation message:

The 20th anniversary celebrations don’t stop there. Fido says that they’ll have more freebies and contests over the next few months. Keep an eye on the 20th anniversary page for more info as it becomes available.
