Ever since the NES Classic Edition came out of left field a few months ago, all the retro gaming geeks of the world have been itching to get their hands on the 30 classic games housed within. Here is a chance to relive our childhoods, complete with an authentic boxy Nintendo Entertainment System controller. That is, of course, assuming you can get one at all.

The thing is that not too many places, if any at all, were offering pre-orders on the NES Classic Edition. As a result, when they opened up the floodgates with today’s official launch, we saw all sorts of crazy lineups forming at GameStop and Best Buy locations across the country… even though some stores might not have gotten any stock at all. The net result has been a lot of disappointed gamers. But there’s hope.

Over on their official Twitter feed, Nintendo of America has stated that this first wave of shipments will not be the only wave of shipments. They’re assuring their fans that there will be a “steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season.” You just might have to harass check with your local retailers for the latest information.

If you struck out this morning, you’ve still got another chance in a couple hours, assuming you’re reading this post in time. The NES Classic Edition will go on sale on Amazon at 2pm PST today (that’s 5pm EST) with “very limited quantities.” Expect it to sell out in a matter of minutes. And yes, there are plenty of ways to address the short controller cord problem too.
