Blizzard Entertainment’s long-awaited Diablo III was released on PC last May, and while the launch had its fair share of problems, gamers were still eager to see the game ported to console. Well the developer has now announced that the game will be released on consoles in September of this year, but that raises another question.

Diablo III will be hitting consoles on September 3rd, which is roughly the end of the road for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. This brings up the question of why Blizzard isn’t waiting a few months to release the game on the next generation of consoles, which would have made for a spectacular launch title.

Blizzard hasn’t denied the possibility of Diablo III coming to next-gen consoles, choosing instead not to comment. The game wasn’t that well-received on PC, so it’ll have to do pretty well on the current-gen consoles to justify porting it to the PS4 and Xbox One.
