Apple HomePod Won’t Be Home for the Holidays Michael Kwan November 17, 2017 News “It’s the most wonderful time of the year…” unless you were hoping to get an Apple HomePod this Christmas. Because it’s totally not going to happen now. I mean, you can still go out and buy an Apple Watch, an Apple iPad and one of them new-fangled iPhone X thingamabobs, but you won’t be able to get Apple’s fancy new smart speakers, because it’s been delayed. When the Apple HomePod was announced back in June alongside iOS 11 and the new iMac Pro, we were told that it would ship some time in December. The last month of the year is a mere two weeks away and now Apple has indicated that they’re not ready. Instead, the new $350 smart speaker with its fancy audio tones won’t ship until early next year. That’s for the US, UK and Australia. Other markets may have to wait even longer. “We can’t wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple’s breakthrough wireless speaker for the home,” Apple told The Verge in an official statement, “but we need a little more time before it’s ready for our customers.” The actual reason for the delay was never given. If you’re still looking for a smart speaker to put under the Christmas tree, the Sonos One and Google Home Mini are solid options. If you’re in Canada, you can jump aboard the Amazon Echo train too. If you’re looking for something a little bigger and more powerful, like the Google Home Max or what will presumably be called the Sonos Five, you’ll need to wait a little longer.
