Finally! Here’s the sequel that no one actually asked for but we’re all probably going to download anyway! The original Angry Birds was launched (terrible pun intended) in 2009 and now we can at long last get our digital hands on the official sequel: Angry Birds 2.

I know what you’re thinking. We’ve already had all sorts of “sequels” to the first game, like Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons. We’ve even left the planet to explore with Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Space. And then Rovio took us into tangential territory by shooting things up in Angry Birds Transformers and racing down a hill with Angry Birds Go! And let’s not forget about the RPG either.

It’s almost like Rovio decided to take a page out of Capcom’s playbook. They even took the same length of time (6 years) between sequels. We may not have had to endure a Super Angry Birds Turbo: The New Challengers, but we came awfully close. As can be expected, the official numerical sequel is really mostly the same. Some new features in Angry Birds 2 include the multi-stage levels, the “spectacular” spells, and the opportunity to defeat “boss” piggies.

Angry Birds 2 is available now as a free download (with in-app purchases) via the iTunes App Store for iOS devices and through the Google Play Store for Android devices. Peep the gameplay trailer below for an overview of some of the new features.
