Akira Replica Bike Touring Japan For Charity Dylan Duarte April 6, 2012 Extras Not only is Akira one of the most popular anime films of all time, but the motorcycle that the eponymous character rides is pretty damn cool too. There have been a number of real-life replicas built over the years, but only one that has Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo’s seal of approval. Shinji Tejima at the Showa Studio repair shop built the bike over seven years and at a total cost of USD $121,310. The bike is now being driven across Japan to raise money for the Bokura Company, a child autism support group. The journey started at Fukoka and the bike has made several pit stops at major cities, with the ultimate destination being Tokyo, where it will be featured in the Katsuhiro Otomo GENGA exhibition that extends from this month until the next. All of this has made me want to watch Akira again. The last time I saw it, anime was still referred to as “Japanimation.” Yeesh. via Slash Gear Share This With The World!
