A MegaTechie Guide to Geeky Summer Swim Toys Dylan Duarte June 17, 2011 Extras Summer is upon us. Geeks aren’t typically friends of the sun, preferring to stay inside, sheltered from its harsh rays. In the summer, however, not even the indoors can provide the safety we need, as the sun’s intense heat invades our homes and permeates our very beings. To combat this, people have been known to venture out into the wild and seek large bodies of water. If you find yourself in such dire straights, be sure to let your geek flag fly with these totally geeky summer accessories. Star Wars Inflatables The Force is strong with these Star Wars inflatables, but more importantly, they’ll prevent you from drowning. While I couldn’t give a Womp Rat’s ass about the prequel toys, that Millennium Falcon is looking mighty fine. The X-Wing is also impressive, measuring over five feet long and rockin’ a working water cannon. Throw in the R2-D2 drinker server and the Death Star beach ball and you’ve got yourself quite a party. Bonus points for using the Falcon to pop the Death Star. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Swim Gear Maybe if my parents had bought me something like this Ninja Turtles swim gear when I was younger, I’d have learned how to swim properly. Different characters are available, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the turtles. It even comes with a water-squirting glove so that you can emulate that power that the turtles never had! I’m very tempted to buy the set now… at 26 years old. It does say one size fits all. Batmobile Pool Float These things are often referred to as pool floats, but they’ll work anywhere with enough water, even your bathtub. You know, assuming you have large enough a bathtub. The sad thing is, I’m not sure where you can buy this Batmobile float. It’s out of stock at Amazon and various other stores across the web. I couldn’t even find it on eBay, but it was just too cool not to share. I mean, maybe not cool enough to strike terror into the hearts of criminals everywhere, but cool enough to impress the kids at the beach. That, or cool enough to attract the attention of the bullies at the pool who will proceed to pop your floatie. The Batmobile never was meant for water, I guess. Ghostbusters Water Zapper When I was a kid, I had serious aspirations to be a Ghostbuster when I grew up. Unfortunately, that dream obviously couldn’t come true. Though it may have worked out for the best, because I think I might be scared of ghosts. If any of them come near me, I’ll make them wish they were never born (or had never died?) with my Ghostbusters Water Zapper, which you can see in glorious action in the above commercial. Despite looking slightly dirty and completely goofy, nostalgia dictates that I must have it. It’s not in production anymore, clearly, but you can find them on eBay. Aquaman Swimming Briefs While most will argue that these Aquaman-inspired swimming briefs aren’t nearly as cool as everything else on this list, I would hesitantly disagree! If you’re going to bust out any of these geek toys, you’ve got to look the part. Even if looking the part means you look ridiculous and are the target of endless ridicule. A true geek wouldn’t be bothered! Let that flag fly, long and proud! At least, until someone takes it down and replaces it with your Aquaman swimming briefs. Share This With The World!
