Rumors abound that the next iPad will feature a 2048 x 1536 display, and while we won’t know for certain until Wednesday’s announcement, chances look good now that Venture Beat is reporting that the new model will be called the iPad HD.

According to sources, the next iPad will lose the number system and instead be named after its display capabilities. If the pixel numbers prove true, the iPad HD blow the 720p competition out of the digital waters by allowing full 1080p video playback on a tablet. To date, it will be the only tablet to do so.

I may be a diehard Android fan, but I am a whore for tech first and foremost, and I am admittedly anticipating Wednesday’s announcement. Keep your eyes glued to MEGATechNews later this week for a nice round-up of just what the iPad HD has to offer.
