Available starting today, this is being touted as the fastest My Book external hard drive system ever. Inside, you’ll find a pair of 1TB 10,000 rpm hard drives for a combined two terabytes of storage. These drives are user-accessible and replaceable. And yes, they support RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD.
The kicker is that if you swing around to the back of this black box, you’ll find two Thunderbolt ports. Link them both up for even faster speeds and, like all other Thunderbolt products, this can be daisy-chained too. In fact, since the Thunderbolt interface is not the bottleneck, you could daisy-chain two of these devices together and effectively double your data transfer speed.
Of course, all this capacity and speed is going to come at a Thunderbolt kind of price. The Western Digital My Book VelociRaptor Duo retails for $899.99 and is available starting now at select US retailers and online at wdstore.com. This is cheaper than if you tried to get two terabytes worth of Thunderbolt-flavored SSD storage, but it’s still not exactly an impulse buy either.
