Enter Trakdot. This is an affordable luggage tracker that is easy to slip into any checked bag (you may have to explain what it is to the security screener, but then that can happen if you’re carrying granola bars). What it does is report city location in real time to virtually any mobile device. Seems like such a simple thing, and quite possibly unnecessary to some of you…but I’m betting none of you who find it unnecessary have found yourself on your way to a business meeting without a change of underwear. The message is delivered to your receiving device via SMS text or email. Or, you can opt to use the free Trakdot app.
Here’s something for everyone: not only does it track your bag to whatever city it happens to be visiting, but it will alert you when your bag is approaching on the carousel at baggage claim. Thus you can avoid being one of the (mostly) unhappy sheeple standing around in a circle praying to the luggage gods that yours will be next. You could even go sit down somewhere, maybe get a cup of coffee, and when your bag is finally approaching, you’ll know it so you can wander over to retrieve it. Priceless.
Trakdot will be available come March, for $49.95 MSRP with an activation fee of $8.99 and an annual service fee of $12.99 (all prices in USD).
