The News: Monday, July 22 Edition 2013 07 09 16.21.26 500x375

Today I have a rant. Has everyone collectively lost their minds? The number of hoaxes, scams, and other stupidities being posted online, either in email, on Facebook or various internet forums, is astounding to me. Pictures of “missing” children who were found months (if not years) ago. “Hover over my name and click on” whatever for privacy on Facebook. Disneyland is giving away free tickets. You’re going to win an iPad. Seriously, people. Has the internet robbed all of you of any modicum of common sense you might once have possessed, or has the internet opened up to me a whole world of ignorance of which I was previously unaware? Do everyone a favour. Before you repost something, before you forward that email…do a search using your favourite search engine. Look at the top ten results. I will bet each and every one of you the sum of one US dollar that in those top ten results, at least three of them will be a link to a site like Snopes or Urban Legends that says unequivocally what you are about to trumpet from the rooftops is not, in fact, true.
