Monster Truck Madness

Or insanity, depending on how you look at it. I am in at stupid o’clock because there is a pit party before the first show. It’s OK, I obviously have my laptop and an internet connection, so if nothing else I can do random searches for things to see where it takes me. Sometimes that can be fun.

My Printer Is Possessed

That is the only logical explanation left. All of a sudden, it has decided that each sheet of paper is approximately six sheets thick, thus it grabs that many to print. Of course, that many won’t go through the machine, so it jams. But if I have only one sheet in the tray to try to trick it, it won’t take it in at all, and still tells me I have a paper jam. Might be time to retire it, although being me I’m going to try to fix it until it is broken so horribly beyond recognition that giving it a decent burial would be the only humane thing.

Working for the Weekend

Just got my call this morning, and apparently I’m doing a show this weekend. Four performances in three days, doing what I normally do for hockey games for a monster truck thing. Should be interesting. Now to fill in the next couple of days with something other than sitting in front of the TV!

Technology Almost Won

It’s not that I don’t know in principle how the new board works, it’s that I learn by doing. And when I learn by doing, it is most helpful to have someone else near me who knows more than me. Last night I was on my own with the new board while simultaneously having to help the person working under me with the existing board since he’s still training. It didn’t go incredibly badly, but it definitely could have been a lot better. Trying to remember the new software language while still needing to think in terms of the old language hung me up a few times…go figure. Ah well…progress.

Well, That Was Interesting

I’ve just spent the entire morning training on the new ribbon board at our arena. It uses the same program as our regular matrix board…technically…but it’s several versions newer. Which means it’s kinda like knowing how to work Windows 3.1 and suddenly being given Vista. I know the language, but I feel like a kindergartener rather than a college professor. I think I’ll get the hang of it, but the games this weekend are going to be entertaining in more than one way. Always an adventure!
