I woke up this morning to blue skies, sunshine, almost 40F, and my daffodils are almost four inches tall! I know that we’ve more than likely got one more snowstorm coming, because that’s how it works here, but almost all the signs are in place. Only thing missing is seeing my first robin, but that can’t be too long now. I feel like I’ve just crawled out of a huge, dark cave. In fact, the other day on the news they said we got more sunshine in the first few days of March than we had in all of December. I like it!

This week, I have decided I cannot take it any more. My mother is on a very restricted diet, which means I have been as well since it’s hard enough to cook for only two people without having to make two separate meals. But this week I have reached the end of my ability. I am cooking with carbohydrates. I am cooking with spices. I am cooking with salt. I am cooking with butter. And if that is a problem, then she’ll have to come up with something else. I am healthy and under 40, whereas she is unhealthy and over 70…something had to give, and I could not let it be my sanity. I love her dearly, but enough is enough.

It’s almost blinding me, but I refuse to close the shades. This much sunshine in mid-February is practically unheard-of in these parts, so it’s best to enjoy it no matter how much it hurts glaring off the snow. I’m not sure whether to be excited or depressed at this point. My other half is finally moving back to the right state tomorrow! But he’ll be living about 100 miles away from me and neither one of us has a car at this point. So while he’ll be “here”, he still won’t be HERE with me.
