Well, I guess they are ALMOST First! Earlier on, ECS announced their AMD 890GX chipset enabled boards. Though both ECS and GIGABYTE’s board offer SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0, the GIGABYTE offers up something called 3x Power Boost to their USB channels, allowing you up to three times the power for hungry USB peripherals. Their solution is based off an NEC uPD70200 host controller which gives it both quick USB 3.0 transfers and backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 devices. With USB 3.0, SATA 3.0 and 3X Power Boost, GIGABYTE has coined this their “333 Onboard Acceleration”.

GIGABYTE’s Ultra Durable technology is also in this board giving you more copper in the PCB and higher quality capacitors and components for longer life and better (overclocking) performance. Something GIGABYTE is known for. Of course, don’t forget that the AMD 890GX chipset offers support for their new 6-Core CPUs and the beefy power on this board is ready for it, despite being an all in one solution with integrated graphics, which aren’t too shabby by the way, sporting an HD 4290 IGP, hybrid CrossFireX and DirectX 10.1.

Instead of launching another reference design, GIGABYTE has gone ahead and tweaked out ATI’s latest value GPU, the HD 5450, with their own customizations. For example, the new GV-R545SC-1GI (shown above) features a completely passive cooling solution using something called “Screen Cooling” which utilizes natural convection to keep noise and temps low vs the active solution in the reference design. The new GV-R545OC-512I isn’t passive like the reference design, and instead, uses a tweaked fan/heatsink combo and a low profile construction making it ideal for HTPC applications where space is tight and temps can be toasty.

Both cards have GIGABYTE’s Ultra Durable 2 VGA treatment which beefs up the power components and the PCB for better reliability, durability, and overclocking potential. We know this tech works because their Silent Cell HD 4850 easily blew away its reference counterpart in both cooling and overclocking and it too had this technology onboard.
