Hot Enough For Ya Day

Actually, today it’s not too bad. The storms yesterday seem to have washed everything clean, and although the humidity is pretty brutal the actual temperature isn’t that bad. We got lucky…cities not too far to the South were hit really hard, with three different lines of thunderstorms and (at last count) three confirmed tornadoes. I looked out into my yard this morning, and the “damage” consists of a couple of small tree branches and a bunch of leaves. Hopefully the damage other places wasn’t too bad, and everyone is able to get back to normal soon!

Holy Humidity, Batman!

OK, so normally I am the LAST person on Earth to complain about it being too hot. If I could live somewhere like Hawaii where the temperature rarely fluctuates beyond a narrow tropical range year-round, I would be absolutely content. Today, however, it is KILLING me! It didn’t quite make 90F here (we topped out at 88F), but the humidity stayed at 85% to 88% all day. I simply can’t take it any more, especially having just spent a week in Tahoe where a high humidity day hangs around 10%. All possible energy has been sucked from my body and I am left with nothing but soggy rags of muscle and the frizziest hair on the planet.

Learning Curve Mastered

It took me a couple of days to figure it out, but I have finally figured out how to do things on my friend’s MacBook. The last time I used anything like a Mac it was called Apple, and it had a cassette tape because it was before floppy disks. My biggest issue was trying to figure out what the heck button equaled right click, but I’ve got it down now. Vacation is great so far…today we’re taking the five-year-old girl ice skating (she competes). I’ll be watching, of course, as crutches are not so good for skating, but it’ll be fun.

I Am Officially Annoyed

Remind me the next time I’m going on vacation to pack when my mother is not in the house. Seriously. I’ve packed before, quite some number of times. I fly WAY more often than you do. I don’t need your “helpful” hints about it. I cannot bring enough food for a seven-course meal in my carry-on bag. I also cannot wrap the present I’m bringing my friend in my checked bag. Nor can I expect the nice people who will be taking me from gate to gate in a wheelchair (the only good thing about still being on crutches near as I can tell) to carry my bag. Trust me on this.

Today It Comes To An End

I’ve had the house to myself for the week while my mother has been vacationing in Northern Wisconsin, but today the party is over. It’s both sad and a relief for me, really…I thoroughly enjoy being away from her for a while, but last night the noises of an empty house started to get to me and I didn’t sleep much. I’m not sure what happened from the ten years I spent living alone to now, but suddenly I get paranoid about things for no good reason when left alone too long. That’ll happen, I guess.
