The story of small-time developer OMGPOP is an inspiring one. The company created Draw Something, a Pictionary-like app for iOS and
Android, everybody and their mother downloaded the app and went crazy with draw fever, and then casual-gaming giant Zynga showed up at OMGPOP’s doorstep with sacks of money. And exactly how much was in those sacks? According to an SEC filing, Zynga bought OMGPOP for $180 million.
That’s a lot of money, but Zynga made it very clear in the last few years that it’s taking the casual gaming market very seriously. And I reported just a week ago that Draw Something was pulling in six figures a day just through ad support, so it’s easy to argue that this acquisition was a good investment. Now I’m even more eager to see what OMGPOP comes up with next. And please, no more word games.
