Despite the ongoing legal battles between the two companies,
Samsung and
Apple have been working together on other fronts, with Samsung manufacturing components for several of Apple’s devices. However, according to The Korea Times, Samsung has terminated a contract to supply Apple with LCD panels, citing supply chain issues and financial strain. Samsung supplies many of the displays for Apple’s
iPad tablets and
iPhone smartphones, but they’ll cease supply entirely by next year.
Samsung is rumored to be manufacturing a home-designed A6 chip on the 32-nanometer process for Apple, so not all love is lost between the two. However, with a jury awarding Apple $1.05 billion in damages from Samsung, I’d say most of the love is lost. Still, business goes on.
Apple can continue to rely on Sharp and LG Electronics for their iconic displays, which they’ll need if the rumors prove true and they announce a new iPad Mini with a smaller screen later this week.
