Nintendo Issues Mass Wii Strap Recall
This morning, Nintendo Wii users received an email that informed them of a Wii Strap Replacement program. The skillfully crafted email that leaves out the term “recall” is instructing customers to have their original straps replaced with new thicker ones…

Nintendo has been quietly replacing straps for customers for a couple weeks now, but this seems to be the first time that Nintendo has notified the public on mass of this replacement. This may have been prompted by the recent class action lawsuit launched against them. Nintendo urges consumers to go to this site for information on how to order a free replacement strap for their controllers.
I guess at a cost of $158 per unit to manufacture the Wii, they can afford to absorb these costs in the interest of public safety. However some would argue it is more to prevent additional public stupidity.
