MEGATech Videos: ZTE Offers Smarter Projector and Voice-Controlled Smartphone (CES 2015) Michael Kwan January 9, 2015 Events, MEGATech Videos ZTE is a company that has managed to secure a significant share of the North American smartphone market with its “affordable premium” approach. We most recently saw this with the announcement of the Grand X Plus in Canada and here at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, ZTE has even more greatness to show that won’t break the bank. Two products in particular that caught our eye are the ZTE S Pro 2 smart projector and the ZTE Star 2 Android smartphone. One of the issues that we experienced when we reviewed the AAXA LED Android Pico Projector last month had to do with the user interface. By contrast, ZTE put a lot of effort in developing the user interface for its smart projector, integrating a 5-inch touchscreen for far better navigation. The ZTE S Pro 2 has a large icon-based menu system that you can swipe through easily and there is full access to the Google Play Store for whatever Android apps you may need. Furthermore, you get a projected HD image of up to 120 inches and the fan noise is kept to a relative minimum too. I was particularly impressed with the autofocus feature, so you don’t have to fumble with a focus wheel either. That’s neat! And the three-hour battery means you can watch a full movie without breaking a sweat. In the world of Android smartphones, setting yourself apart of the competition can be a serious challenge. The ZTE Star 2 brings all of the flagship-level specs that you’d expect from a high-end smartphone like a quad-core processor and high resolution camera, but it adds the unique system-level voice control feature. You can quite literally command your phone to do just about anything using only your voice. This is all done offline and on a system level. The premium build with an aluminium frame and full glass back and front round out a package that currently sells in China for about $399. With devices like this, ZTE is demonstrating that it can certainly hang with the big boys. If you haven’t already done so, watch the embedded video above for a closer look at these two projects and check out our interview with ZTE Canada Chairman Lixin Cheng too.
