Medical Insurance Rant

Since I am now a woman of a certain age, there are many, many lab tests my doctor would like me to have. No problem, I have insurance! HA! My insurance will only cover lab work after I pay $1,000.00 out of pocket, and then they pick up 80%. Conveniently enough, the tests I need done come to “only” around $800.00, so it’s all on me. As I look at my calendar and realize I’ve worked exactly one day out of the last eighteen, and unemployment compensation only goes so far, I figure it’ll be some time next year before I have enough extra to pay that much. Luckily, my doctor gets it and is willing to wait. Still…what is the point in having insurance coverage that doesn’t cover anything? The deductible resets at the end of the calendar year, so come January first I’ll have to start all over with the thousand dollars. At least tonight there’s hockey…
