The 32GB “Deluxe” Wii U will retail for $350, but the average selling price on eBay is $517, an almost 50% markup. The 8GB “Basic” version, which retails for $300, only has a slightly inflated average of $348. One basic console sold for $750, but that’s a “right time, right place’ type of rarity.
Like I said, this isn’t surprising. It happens with popular items all of the time, most recently with the iPhone 5. Just because it’s to be expected, doesn’t make it any less disappointing. People are vultures. Hopefully most people who are looking forward to the console already got their pre-orders in. If you weren’t that lucky, let’s hope Nintendo can meet demand quicker than they did with the Wii.
