There has been nothing major in the world of USB thumb drives since the USB 3.0 update. How would you even make news in a product market where only aesthetic changes separate brands? Kingston found a way with the new DataTraveler HyperX Predator 3.0.
The Predator 3.0 will be, on release, the fastest USB drive at speeds of up to 240 MB/s read and 160 MB/s write. Before you say that is not that much faster than the current options, the Predator 3.0 is also available with up to 1TB (1000 GB) of storage. This will effectively put a lot of pressure on the external hard drive market as a keychain-sized device will offer the same storage capacity with higher speed.
The DataTraveler HyperX Predator 3.0 is something I can't wait to get my hands on in Q1 2013. I expect an early release date to avoid other brands from beating them to the punch. I also expert a serious price tag, but this could be the last external storage device you need for the next 10 years.
