Last year, in a move questioned by many, Google bought Motorola Mobility for a hefty $12.5 billion. It’s been suggested that Google isn’t necessarily after money, but rather increasing its market share, and that they wanted Motorola Mobility simply for its 17,000 patents. After all, Motorola hasn’t been the success that it once was, with its last big smartphone being the Motorola RAZR.

Now rumor has it that Google is looking to sell MM and has been in talks with potential buyer Huawei Technologies in China. Google is denying the reports, saying they’re still interested in growing Motorola as an independent company, but with Samsung, HTC, and Sony all enjoying success and Huawei ready to have a bigger footprint in the North American market, Motorola’s chances of succeeding are slimmer than ever. You have to know when to fold’em, so hopefully Google gets rid of Motorola and puts all of their focus onto Android.
