Google has entered the tablet PC race with the Nexus 7, an announcement that was spoiled by the Google Play Store not long before the company started their yearly I/O conference where they were certain to announce the tablet.

The Nexus 7 will come in two models, an 8GB and a 16GB, and both will feature a 7-inch 1280×800 HD IPS display that’s both back-lit and scratch-resistant. The device, powered by Tegra 3, will run Android 4.1, commonly known as Jelly Bean. There’s also NFC, GPS, and a 1.2MP front-facing camera. Google claims that the 4325 mAh battery should last through eight hours of use.

The rumors on pricing were pretty spot-on. The 8GB and 16GB models will be $199 and $249, respectively. Pre-orders are open now and are expected to ship in 2-3 weeks, and for a limited time you can get $25 in Google Play store credit with your purchase.
