GIGABYTE continues the march forward with efficiency being the primary target this year at Computex 2012. They announced their Ultra Durable 5 Technology which is really just refinements to the current standards of motherboard designs. While that may not seem like a big deal, this will be changing the motherboard market permanently.
The Ultra Durable 5 motherboard will have an IR3550 PowIRstage IC replacing the current crop of PWM and IC chips for the CPU on your motherboard. What does that mean? Well it means the board can deliver up to 60A of power at up to 95% efficiency. This means the CPU can pull up to 720 watts of power while the board wastes very little energy to heat across the CPU power system. The best part is these new chips are a combination of several chips being used now so we get all this great stuff with fewer components on the board.
GIGABYTE also will be using 2x copper PCBs and high capacity ferret chokes to ensure the entire motherboard is a quality product. The new IR3550 ICs will force everyone else to re-evaluate what they are doing with their motherboard components. and how they can make them better.
