Well it has been a pretty one sided market in the SSD controller market. It has been SandForce, Indilinx, and Intel with their own proprietary controller. Well this is all about to change thanks to Corsair new 4th Generation SSD. The new Corsair Neutron will have a LM87800 6 Gb/s controller from Link_A_Media Devices (LAMD).
As far as performance is concerned, there is nothing really special, but you will all be glad to know the Neutron will be more than competitive. The Neutron GTX will have up to 90k random read/write IOPs with up to 555 MB/s sequential reads and 500 MB/s sequential writes. These will be available in 120 GB, 240 GB, and 480 GB models.
While Corsair has announced the availability of the Neutron and Neutron GTX in July, there has been no mention of price just yet. I believe this move to a LAMD controller was to bring price down while maintaining performance.
