Pirates of the Caribbean Fans Beware!

Pirates of the Caribbean Fans Beware!

In anticipation of the movies premiere, an email has been circulating around the web promising a teaser trailer of the third installment of the movie franchise “World’s End” and a chance to win free tickets. However, this email isn’t treasure but a trojan designed to do nasty things to your system…

“There is no film preview and there are no free tickets,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. “The only thing that this email is trailing is an attack wave of malicious code against your PC. Once your computer is compromised, hackers will be able to steal information from you with the aim of identity theft and other crimes.”

The email has gone out to North American and European fans and bears the familiar logo of the movie. We advise that you don’t take the bait.

Internet Terrorism Judge Doesn’t Get What a Website Is

This is one of those situations where you really have to scratch your heads. A judge is being asked to preside over a case where there is strong Internet based evidence against Terrorists, but claims he doesn’t even know what a website is…

“The trouble is I don’t understand the language. I don’t really understand what a Web site is,” he told a London court during the trial of three men charged under anti-terrorism laws.

Prosecutor Mark Ellison briefly set aside his questioning to explain the terms “Web site” and “forum.” An exchange followed in which the 59-year-old judge acknowledged: “I haven’t quite grasped the concepts.”

It’s not a good day to be the prosecution…

80% of Companies Do Not Secure Removeable Media

Have you ever lost a USB Drive at work?  Did you know that its possible that no one cares? Better make sure it wasn’t something important…

Over 43 per cent of those questioned have no controls whatsoever in place to manage removable media devices, 27.4 per cent leave it to the manager’s discretion, and 8.6 per cent have taken the drastic step of introducing a company-wide ban. Only 16.4 per cent use endpoint security software to manage the potential risks effectively.  This is despite a raft of recent media stories surrounding insider data theft using removable media.

Companies Pitch In To Make Everyone Safer

Companies Pitch In To Make Everyone Safer

A whole bunch of companies are getting together to make everywhere a safer place including one company called InGrid that is harnessing the power of the web to get it done…

The company’s technology is based on wireless sensors placed at many points inside a home that are linked to both a handheld device and a password-protected Web site.

The sensors provide real-time information not only on whether the house is safe from burglars, but whether children, parents or babysitters have entered the premises using their passcodes.
