Taking over 30 hrs to build, this is LEGO’s largest set yet! It contains over 5,900 pieces and is recommended for only the most experienced builders. The set is fully detailed capturing all the minarets, domes, finials, arches, and stairs. This thing builds out to 20″ x 16″ inches and is so pretty, it should be stuck in a glass case. At a price of $399 CDN, it certainly isn’t cheap. But if you want to take a break from building a Star Destroyer or the Millenium Falcon, this may prove to be a good Lego vacation from the norm.

Both historians and architects had been wondering for many years how the Great Pyramid of Kheops – last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the World – had been constructed at an age where wheels, pulleys and iron tools were virtually unheard of. French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin had a hypothesis that Dassault Systèmes’ real-time 3D software allowed to test thoroughly. The computer simulation confirmed that the pyramid was indeed built from the inside, although further verification remains to be done on-site.

Dassault Systèmes’ real-time 3D solutions enabled Jean-Pierre Houdin to model and explore the pyramid in 3D and run simulations confirming his theory that the pyramid was built from the inside!

After over 2,000 years, it was about time to update the list! In this first truly global poll, everyone will be able to vote — either by Internet, or with their mobile phone — for their own pick of seven architectural wonders of the world, from the Incan mountaintop city Machu Picchu in Peru, to the rose-red desert city of Petra in Jordan, to Easter Island’s mysterious statues, to India’s Taj Mahal, and many more.

What are the greatest architectural achievements in history? Rome’s Colosseum? The Great Wall of China? The Pyramids of Giza?

That’s what millions of people are asking themselves as they vote in the largest global poll ever conducted, an attempt to recast ancient history by ranking the top architectural marvels as the “new” seven wonders of the world.
