Unless you’re lucky enough to live in a house with a kitchen designed for a serious chef, you’ll immediately see the need for this. No matter how nice your kitchen (and mine is pretty darn fabulous, I have to say), there is always a part of the counter that is dark. At my house, that’s the corner in the heel of the “L” shape formed by my stove and sink. Which also happens to be where I do the majority of my chopping and mixing.

Short of installing expensive lighting, what do you do? These nifty little lights from Sylvania seem like the perfect inexpensive solution. They come in a three-pack, each one featuring a motion sensor that doesn’t just turn on the light, it controls how bright it gets with just a wave of your hand. They’re ridiculously easy to install, since all you need is the included magnet and self-adhesive tape to put them wherever you need. They require just one AA battery each.

You know what I keep coming back to? The motion sensor control. I don’t know about you, but invariably I’ve already got my hands in whatever I’m trying to cook before I realize I’m going to need more light. If all I had to do was wave my hand to turn on a light, I’d save myself several hand-washings as well as time. I am curious as to how sensitive the sensor is, though…I wouldn’t want the motion my hand makes while slicing a bunch of vegetables to turn it off.

Really, that’s all there is to them. At just $24.99 US per three-pack, why not give them a try?
