How the Thanko Bicycle Dynamo USB Charger works is really pretty simple. You attach the dynamo to either the front or rear fork of your bicycle, then connect it to the charging unit, then connect that to a mobile device holder that can be attached to your handlebars. From there, just pedal and charge! You will need to provide your own cable to attach your device to the charger, however.
Now, before you start thinking this is the greatest thing ever, you should know that it’s pretty much impossible to generate enough electricity to charge a dead device. Its power output is dependent on how fast you pedal, after all, and there are limits. Thanko claims this can produce up to 500mA, but you’d have to be going pretty darn fast to generate that much, and most people simply don’t do it. You will, however, easily be able to generate enough power to keep your device topped off, or to make that last important phone call.
If you think this is something you need, you can pick one up for ¥1,980, or about $26.00 US.
