Amazon has already announced their Fire TV set-top box, along with their custom gaming controller. The box runs Android and a large majority of the Fire TV games come cheap, so it's natural to assume that Amazon is shooting for a more casual gaming experience and not necessarily trying to replace your PlayStation or your Xbox.

Or are they?

Amazon has reportedly hired Kim Swift and Clint Hocking, game designers who between them have worked on the Portal, Splinter Cell, and Far Cry franchises. Any projects currently underway are being kept tightly under wraps, but this news suggests that Amazon Games Studios may become a force to be reckoned with.

Amazon did acquire Killer Instinct and Strider studio Double Helix earlier this year, so this isn't a total shocker. It's way to early to speculate what will come of all of this, but it's likely that Fire TV will be a hit and it's exciting to consider where Amazon could go from there with a growing library of "serious" Fire TV games.
