Although he’s widely ridiculed for claiming that he invented
the internet, a claim he never quite made, Al Gore was in fact instrumental in the creation of the
internet. It’s only fitting that he’ll be among the first people to be inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame. He’s one of 33 people being honored as an inaugural inductees, along with other politicians, engineers, and so on, which will happen at the Global INET 2012 conference in Geneva.
“Instrumental in helping to create the ‘Information Superhighway,’ Gore was one of the first government officials to recognize that the Internet’s impact could reach beyond academia to fuel educational and economic growth as well.”
That’s how the Internet Society described Gore and his contributions, which seems pretty spot on. Gore gets a lot of flack from various sources, but he’s done a lot of good for this world and I’m happy to see him get recognized.
