The other day I was at the store and thought I’d found actual ripe bananas. I don’t know if it’s just here, but the last five years, you can’t buy a ripe banana to save your life, they’re all almost fluorescent green. I was so excited I bought four of them, thinking I could eat some and make bread. Turns out they’re plantains, which I’ve never eaten in my life but have heard are wonderful. So today I’m making a sort-of stew with the plantains, chicken, tomatoes, onions and garlic (plus a ton of spices, of course). I don’t mind trying new things, I just hope they don’t come out goofy. I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of eating what is essentially a banana with chicken and tomatoes.
