Nope, not a holiday. I'm just incredibly grateful that a combination of being a really good kid and smart driving means that no one involved is dead after a good friend's son was in a horrific car accident Tuesday afternoon. He swerved to try to avoid a woman (with her three small children in the car) who pulled out in front of him (he had six friends in his SUV), and rolled the truck four times. Not that anyone escaped injury...far from it. One of his friends was ejected as they rolled, the truck came to rest on top of him, and he died twice before they could get him in the helicopter; there is also a laundry list of broken bones, bruises, etc. But, if my friend's son hadn't swerved, the police said he definitely would have killed all four people in the car. So I am eternally grateful to whatever powers oversee these things, and while everyone involved has a fairly long road to recovery both physical and mental, I can only sit here in awe that we are not attending any funerals this week. Even the poor kid who ended up under the truck is supposed to be released from the hospital this afternoon, if he hasn't been already.
