Happy Halloween!

Is it bad that I’m making my roommate deal with trick-or-treaters? I told her I simply HAD to get this news post done, so I couldn’t watch the door, I’ve got to be in my office. Hey, if you can’t be evil on Halloween, when can you? We usually only get about six, anyway…they’re scared of our yard because of all the trees. Here’s hoping there isn’t anything scary in the reviews tonight.

OCZ Announces 15 inch DIY Notebook Kit

Not content with simply building decent RAM and power supplies, it would appear that OCZ Technology has it’s sights set on the DIY or barebones notebook market with their latest 15″ DIY Kit. This market has seen some more budget minded entries companies like Acer and Asus, but this is first enthusiast targeted barebones kit that I know of. OCZ’s press release would agree, as Ryan Edwards, Director of Product Management, was quoted stating the following.

“With OCZ DIY notebooks, end-users have complete control of the cost/performance ratio of key components, giving consumers the opportunity to personalize a true gaming and multi-tasking powerhouse notebook by using a validated component list and our easy to follow step-by-step manual included with every DIY package.”

Basically he’s saying that this latest kit will be easy to setup and assemble, and easy to use after the fact. While I can’t argue the importance of that, I wonder how well the aspirations will match up with component availability. Though mobile components are mostly available for purchase from many retailers, availability of some components can be spotty. Either way this looks quite interesting, to say the least. If you want more information you can check out OCZ’s full press release, or check out the product home page.

Thursday, Part Deux

I’m full of rants today, I guess. My latest peeve is our thermostat setting. I understand that everything is going up in cost, but do we seriously need to set the thermostat at 62F? I haven’t been warm in so long I can’t remember what it feels like. I spend most of my time at home huddled in my office with the space heater so close to my feet I fear my socks will burst into flame, but my nose is still colder than a dog’s. I offered to pay more per month so I could turn it up, and was told in no uncertain terms that is not an option. I don’t get it. So, shivering, I give you this evening’s selection of reviews…

Thursday Thoughts

Is anyone else simply tired of answering the phone? I’ve taken to ignoring my house phone because 98% of the time it rings it’s a robo-call for some politician or another. I wish there was a list I could put myself on for “I already voted absentee, you can no longer influence my choices”. Wouldn’t that be neat? Not to mention the 847 pieces of snail mail I get daily from some politician or another. I’m sorry…I am interested in the national election, but I’ve already voted. And as of this morning I have my own election to worry about, as nominations for an organization I belong to were today and I have competition for the first time in six years. I’m done with other people’s politics, it’s now time to mind my own. Thank goodness for voicemail.
